Patricia Cullen - piano
Patricia Cullen commenced her career as a solo pianist and harpsichordist at an early age. Training at both the Royal Northern College and the Royal Academy of Music her professors included Franz Reinzenstein, Paul Hamburger, Geraint Jones and Lionel Salter. She was a holder of both the Max Mayer Piano Scholarship and a Countess of Munster Scholarship and made her Wigmore Hall debut playing works by Mozart, Schumann, Reizenstein, Debussy and Liszt.
She broadcasts as a solo pianist and harpsichordist taking part in such programmes as ‘Music at Night’, ‘Music Making’ and ‘This Week’s Composer’ playing music ranging from William Byrd to Hans Werner Henze.
She has worked in partnership with many instrumentalists and singers and has an extensive repertoire of chamber and vocal music.
A week of recital programmes in which she appeared as both pianist and harpsichordist was staged in London at Blackheath Concert Halls and included Concerto for Harpsichord and Chamber Ensemble by Manuel de Falla and the Sextet for Piano and Wind Ensemble by Poulenc.
“The recital had perfect partnership. The extremely difficult and important piano part (John Ireland Violin Sonata) was magnificently played.” - Daily Telegraph
“Coming from a good school of playing, she was sensitive to the styles of composers and accorded tonal value to every note.” - Daily Telegraph
“...to the Debussy Images she brought an ear for refined tone quality and subtle dynamic nuance.” - The Times
